The Master Magician from King Feature's long- running
newspaper comic strip battles a costumed madman through 12
thrilling episodes!! The Wasp, masked leader of an
underworld gang, is determined to acquire a fantastic
radium-energy machine invented by Professor Houston. His
evil machinations to obtain the device include sabotage
against public utilities, power plants and radio stations.
Most of this mayhem is thwarted because of the timely
intervention of the formidable Mandrake (played by future
game-show host Warren Hull ), a world-famous magician who
has vowed to stop The Wasp. Will Mandrake finally capture
the master villain and his gang, thereby saving the world
from the sting of The Wasp? And will Mandrake be reunited
with Professor Houston's lovely daughter, Betty (Doris
Weston) ? Well, you'll have to watch all 12 thrilling
chapters to find out! Based on the comic strip created by
Lee Falk and Phil Davis, MANDRAKE THE MAGICIAN was brought
to the big screen by Columbia Pictures in 1939 with
several modifications... the elimination of Mandrake's
trademark moustache and a thick head of hair on the bald-pated
Lothar. Sadly, the beautiful Narda is nowhere in sight.
Also stars Al Kikume, Dick Curtis and Rex Downing,
directed by Norman Deming & Sam Nelson. This is the full
1939 black & white adventure serial; digitally remastered
and recorded in NTSC format on two DVD-R discs, and should
play on any standard DVD player. Running time is
approximately 2 hours & 20 minutes. Released by Smarty
Pants Entertainment in 2008. |
